On hearing that the Burberry factory in Treorchy is set to close, which will result in the loss of 300 jobs, Jill Evans MEP said;

"As recently as July the company was boasting a 19% increase in sales and an increase in demand for their products. Revenues had increased to £135 million. Burberry is repaying its 300 Rhondda workers by scrapping their jobs."

"This is a disastrous blow for the Rhondda. It's the latest in a long series of job losses, particularly at the top of the Valleys. It's unbelievable that the Assembly Government were unaware of the situation and have not stepped in to help keep these desperately needed jobs.

"We in Plaid have been campaigning for many years to get decent access roads through Rhondda Fawr and Fach, which would help businesses stay in the Valleys and keep people working in the Valleys.

"The Rhondda can't take much more. We are ignored by Labour as the decline continues. We are a stone's throw from Cardiff Bay but we may as well be a million miles away. Labour has let us down time after time. The rundown and the neglect must stop."
